The end of an era: My Treo saga
So anybody who knows me knows that that I have been an advocate for Palm hardware for quite sometime. I loved the Palm Treo form factor. Sure there were some things to be desired, particularly it’s lack of screen real estate, but Palm had a great design. They applied my “kiss” methodology (keep it simple stupid) and provided the world with great devices.
Sure there Palm, er, Access OS, had become incredibly outdated, but Palm had become a hardware company. As the world has shifted to a Windows vs Blackberry smartphone world Palm’s legendary dated Access OS took a back seat.
So Palm created the “Palm Treo Pro” and the “Treo Pre.” The Treo Pro, though nice, is a GSM only phone with limited CDMA release on Sprint. The Pre, its newest invention, completely changes the treo. It’s nice and all, but its nothing more than a HTC slide phone running a new OS. The Treo re-defined what we thought of smart phones — but unfortunatly I can no longer wait for Palm to upgrade my 700wx with a 800w or Palm Pro because VZW just can’t seem to get them to run reliable enough.
So this is why I switched to the new Samsung Saga from VZW. The phone is incredible and a great upgrade for any Treo user. You can shutdown the custom Samsung UI and google to find the treo speed dial app, to make it more like your old treo. Sure there are irritating moments because there is a learning curve, but still, its better than the Treo.
